Director of Risk Management- MUST HAVE RISK MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

Position Summary
The Director of Risk is responsible for leading and coordinating the organization’s comprehensive risk management program. This role focuses on identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and preventing risks while collaborating with leadership, clinical providers, staff, and other key stakeholders to develop and implement sustainable corrective actions.
The Director of Risk oversees risk-related activities associated with potential and active litigation, including investigations, interviews, depositions, legal hold processes, record gathering, and other activities as directed by legal counsel.
This position also provides education and consultation to leaders, providers, and staff regarding risk management practices, incident reporting, informed consent, clinical documentation, disclosure practices, and professional liability exposure.
Additionally, the Director of Risk is responsible for overseeing liability and property claims management activities and serves as the organization’s Compliance and Ethics Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the organization’s overall risk management program.
- Identify, assess, prevent, and mitigate operational, clinical, and professional risks.
- Partner with leadership, providers, employees, and other stakeholders to develop and implement corrective action plans.
- Coordinate investigations related to incidents, claims, and potential litigation.
- Support litigation activities, including interviews, depositions, legal holds, record collection, and other requests from legal counsel.
- Provide guidance regarding informed consent, documentation standards, disclosure practices, and professional liability risks.
- Develop and deliver risk management education and training for leaders, providers, and staff.
- Promote effective incident reporting and risk identification practices throughout the organization.
- Oversee professional liability, general liability, and property claims management activities.
- Monitor emerging risks and recommend strategies to reduce organizational exposure.
- Serve as the Compliance and Ethics Officer, supporting compliance initiatives and ethical standards.
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders regarding risk, compliance, and claims matters.

Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico or a valid multistate nursing license.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program.
- At least 5 years of professional nursing experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a nursing leadership role, such as Director or Manager.
- Previous healthcare risk management experience required.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification preferred at hire and required within three years of employment.
